Project report:

Transylvania, Romania – a place known for vampires and bears. But that was not the aim of our project. We targeted on something deeper and more meaningful: Roma identity and ways to protect and embrace their culture.

This project, organized by the Youth Association from Transylvania (ATA), helped us recognize the importance of inclusivity and support of Roma identity. We took part in several workshops which deepened our knowledge about Roma traditions, broke the boundaries between cultures and eliminated prejudice.

Every day we learned more and more about Roma culture through workshops and presentations. We were also introduced to the concept of digital storytelling, which is a great method of sharing important stories. Under the great lead of our organizers Mate, Edina and Réka, we were able to create meaningful outputs, that were presented to the locals and also shared on social media.

We even had the opportunity to spend a day with children from a local school and share a part of our project with them. We also explored the local history and visited a flooded city, where many Roma people lived.

By working together in international teams, we not only extended our knowledge about Roma people, but also about the cultural backgrounds we come from. This project helped grow and recognise the awareness of our actions and words.

I’m glad I could take part in this project as it was a great way to connect people from different cultures.
