Project report:

Hello from the green heart of Italy! Between 21st and 29th July, a group of five young people from the Czech Republic, led by our amazing group leader Daniel, joined the international youth exchange “Green Souls” in beautiful Recoaro Terme, Italy. Together with participants from Hungary, Slovakia, Spain, Italy, and Estonia, we experienced an unforgettable week full of learning, sharing, and connecting.

The main goal of the project was to help us understand environmental problems and learn how to reduce waste in everyday life. During the project, I improved my English, practiced communication, and learned more about other cultures by working in international teams.

We arrived on the first day just in time for dinner. We were tired but excited. On the second day, we got to know the program and started to meet people from the other countries. Everyone was friendly and open, so it was easy to start making connections.

Every evening we had an intercultural night. Each country prepared a short program about their culture, traditions, food and music. It was fun to try new things and to learn how different and interesting other cultures are.

On the third day, we went on our first hike. Unfortunately, it rained a lot that day. I learned the hard way that I should always bring a rain cover for my backpack! Even though we were wet and cold, we had a useful activity at the end of the hike, where we learned how to use a map and compass a basic introduction to orienteering.

The next day we had another hike. This one included a practical workshop on how to clean water using simple materials like plastic bottles, sand, charcoal, and stones. It was very interesting to see how we can filter dirty water in nature. Next day we learned how to build a shelter using raincoats and ropes a survival skill I had never tried before.

During the Slovak intercultural evening, there was one uncomfortable moment when a girl said something unkind to me. It didn’t feel nice, but I decided to focus on the many positive people around me and enjoy the rest of the evening.

Besides these experiences, we also worked on different creative activities using recycled materials. We made some decorations, and other small items. These workshops showed us how we can reuse things in a fun and useful way instead of throwing them away

This project gave me a lot, not only knowledge about the environment, but also life lessons, new friendships, and a better understanding of different cultures. Our leader Daniel was always kind, supportive, and helpful.

I’m really grateful I could be part of Green Souls. I came back home with new experiences, new friends, and many ideas on how to live a greener life. It was an unforgettable week full of learning, nature, and people I will always remember.
