Project report:

Eco-Warrior Mindset – Enying, Hungary

This Erasmus+ project that I participated in was a unique experience that focused on the critical topics of climate change and the association with the mental health crisis. The program helped with knowing the impacts of climate change on both the environment and our mental well-being in a deeper level, particularly among young people.

I had an opportunity participate this program, along with participants from across Europe, including Poland, Latvia, Romania, Italy and beyond.

Program Highlights

Arrival and Ice-breaking Activities

The program started on October 15, 2024, in Enying, Hungary. After a travel day to recharge, we began with name games, helping everyone become familiar with others in a fun and interactive way.

Daily Sessions and Learning

Each day began with a slow-start session, it inspires us to have a thoughtful reflection on environmental issues. Topics ranged from the immediate impact of climate change to strategies for mitigating its effects.

As someone with an IT background, I shared insights into the environmental impact of technology, such as the carbon footprint associated with programming and digital devices. I emphasized simple practices like optimizing code to reduce CPU usage, which in turn lowers energy consumption – a lesser-known yet effective method of minimizing carbon footprint.

Interactive and Engaging Activities

The entire program was designed to include different activities, not only learning from the sessions, but also learning with hands-on experiences:

  • The venue had many great opportunities like horseback riding, cycling and this allowed me to deepening my connection with nature.
  • We collaborated on a group drawing activity, based on a given theme by the organizer. This was both challenging and enjoyable, as it required creativity and collaboration.
  • During a visit to Székesfehérvár, we handed out notes with messages encouraging people to connect with nature for their mental well-being and many more. Seeing them smiling after reading the notes from us were really nice.
  • We also had a cultural night, where we had an opportunity to learn traditions from various countries. For instance, I learned from an Italian participant about their use of hand signals in communication.

I would like to give a special thanks to the organizing team, including Ricsi, Andi, and Agni, for their dedication. And also to EYCB for providing this amazing opportunity to learn and also connect with others from different backgrounds.
