Report z projektu:

At the beginning of September, I had a wonderful opportunity to take part in the Erasmus+ project Peers to Inclusivity, which took place in the Romanian city of Arad, close to the Hungarian border. We were accommodated in a picturesque national park by the Mureș River, which gave the whole programme a unique atmosphere. I had the chance to discover the culture and meet participants from different parts of Europe and the Middle East – from Armenia, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Spain, and Jordan.

The project focused on promoting inclusion and reducing discrimination among young people, with particular attention to involving youth with disabilities in non-formal education.

Throughout the week, we explored the barriers people with disabilities may face and learned how to adapt activities so they are accessible to everyone. We tried out various methods – from energisers to working with the concept of universal design for learning. Step by step, we also learned about the role of a facilitator and the Experiential Learning Cycle (ELC), which we applied during activities such as role-playing, treasure hunts, and an obstacle course blindfolded.

Our final task was a project in pairs, where we designed visual materials, games, and a complete programme tailored to a specific participant (e.g., a deaf student or someone with limited English skills). This allowed us to put theory into practice and understand how to create an inclusive environment without excluding anyone.

The programme also included a rich cultural and leisure component. We organised an intercultural night, where the Italian participants prepared homemade pizza, and we learned traditional dances from Spain, Armenia, and Romania. We made the most of the beautiful surroundings – we visited a nearby lake, spent an afternoon by the Mureș River, enjoyed a barbecue and a campfire where I played the guitar, and we roasted marshmallows together. One day was also dedicated to a trip to Timișoara, a historic city about an hour from Arad.

The whole week was not only inspiring but also friendly and enriching. I am taking away plenty of experience, new methods for working with young people, and wonderful friendships across continents.
