Project report:
The Expedition Skills: Swiss Saxony project took place from October 20 to October 26, 2025. The project involved 22 participants from different European countries, two of us were participants from the Czech team. We were guided through the program by 3 main instructors and were further assisted by two volunteers. I consider the most attractive thing to be the beautiful nature that surrounded us the whole time and at the same time the very friendly and positive attitude of all the instructors who guided us through the entire project.
The program focused on soft skills and hard skills, where the emphasis was on group leadership, navigation, the ability to solve complex situations and first aid knowledge. On the first day we focused more on individual participants and getting to know each other, and at the same time each participant could join a specific team – media, socials, eco and kitchen. There was always one main manager in the teams who managed the others. On the following days, the participants in the individual teams changed. The main workshops were dedicated to first aid during a hike and also equipment to take with you on a hike. On the same day, a sleeping test in a bivouac took place. On the second day, a detailed reflection was held on what happened while sleeping in a bivouac. The program culminated in preparations for a 3-day expedition, where each participant was again divided into a team. Although the weather during the expedition was not favorable, all participants were very resilient and together we overcame the obstacles that awaited us during the expedition. After returning from the expedition, several reflections took place and the added value was sharing how we can use our knowledge in our community and when working with young people.
