Project report:

For the project with the mysterious name “The Rule of Artichoke,” we traveled between October 9th and 16th to the picturesque Italian town of Castelletto di Cuggiono, located about 30 kilometers west of Milan in the Lombardy region. In addition to the three-member Czech (or rather Czechoslovak) team, the project also included participants from Bulgaria, Slovenia, Hungary, Lithuania, Spain, Croatia, and Romania.

Upon arrival, it was immediately clear that this project would be unique, not least because of its accommodations – all activities took place in a beautifully renovated monastery perched at the very top of the town. Thanks to this facility, which we had almost entirely to ourselves, we enjoyed great comfort – except for the never-ending bells!

The project’s trainers, Galya and Lorenzo, were both experienced facilitators and genuinely passionate about the subject of community organizing. The program was well-prepared, with individual sessions logically connected, and most activities were original, experiential, and intellectually stimulating. Community organizing is a broad topic that can’t be fully covered in six days of training, but it’s enough time to lay the groundwork and provide inspiration for where to start.

In conclusion, I’d like to highlight the dedication of the entire organizing team, who ensured the smooth running of the project, especially the delicious food and their willingness to help with transportation and accommodation. The members of the host organization, Young Effect, set a great example of a functional and active community!
