Project report:
When I signed up for the project Youth Voices – Green Choices, I expected to talk about food waste and sustainability. I didn’t expect that one week in Turin would give me so much more — new friends, new views on the world and a deeper connection to what I eat and how I live.
The Czech team had the perfect start to summer — by kicking it off right away in sunny Italy. Turin welcomed us with sunshine, summer heat and Italian charm. Our host, Associazione Culturale Eufemia, brought together young people from Greece, France, Spain and our Czech team. Right from the start the atmosphere was open and full of energy. Through group discussions, games and creative tasks, we were encouraged to reflect on our own habits and consider how individual choices can have a collective environmental impact.
One of the highlights was a game called Label Guessing Game. We were shown real ingredient lists from food packaging with all branding removed and had to guess what the product was. This was both fun and eye-opening, as we realized how little we usually know about what we’re eating. To keep the energy high and the atmosphere fun, we also enjoyed a variety of creative and sometimes hilarious energizers that brought lots of laughs and helped us connect as a group.
We also had the chance to visit MAcA – Europe’s first museum fully dedicated to sustainability issues. It wasn’t the usual kind of museum. We explored there how human actions affect the planet. Its interactive format helped us to understand sustainability in a hands-on way.
An unforgettable part of the project was the Intercultural night, where each national team presented their culture through traditional food, music and dances. We shared dishes from our countries, introduced local customs and got a real taste (literally!) of each other’s traditions. As a Czech team we taught others how to dance the mazurka – a traditional dance that quickly got everyone smiling and moving.
Most of all, I left hopeful – hopeful that young people do care about the planet and that we can inspire change through creative learning.
Thanks to EYCB, I got to live an experience I’ll never forget. It wasn’t just about learning or traveling — it was about growing, connecting and seeing things from a whole new perspective. I truly believe everyone should try something like this at least once in their life. It changes you in the best way.
