Project report:

Between the 3rd and 11th of August 2024, I participated in the project “Moving Towards Gender-Sensitive Youth Work in Europe” in Dilijan, Armenia. The main goal of the project was to share experiences and practices on how to work not only with young people but also with others in a way that is considerate and respectful. The project leaders were truly experienced and managed to clarify this complex issue on many levels. Overall, the project attracted many communicative individuals, which made the discussions following the activities both extensive and meaningful.

Another advantage, perhaps not immediately apparent, was the location of the project. It took place near one of the temples dating back to the 12th century in Dilijan National Park, set amidst beautiful nature but otherwise relatively isolated. This gave us more space to get to know each other. Of course, we also went on several excursions, including a trip to Lake Sevan, where some of us even swam at an altitude of 2,000 meters. We also ventured into the mountains near our accommodation, where we met a few locals who immediately invited us for coffee.

Overall, I would say the project was a success. I returned with a wealth of new knowledge, not only about the project’s topic but also about different cultures. I also met many new people, primarily from the Caucasus region, which was particularly fascinating for me, as I knew very little about this area before the project. It is entirely different when you experience these places firsthand.
