Project report:

On 20-28.2.2025, a five-member group of the Czech team participated in the Rughts on reels training course in Trnava. In addition to the Czech Republic, participants from Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, Bangladesh, Jordan and Iraq participated in the project. The aim of the course was primarily to deepen awareness of democracy and human rights, which are often still suppressed in various parts of the world. The training course took the form of informal education, where we deepened our brains ourselves through group work, team building activities, discussions, video creation, creative and critical thinking.

The first days were very theoretical in order to unify the knowledge base regarding human rights. Icebreakers were included in the lectures of leading professors from Bratislava universities so that we were always fresh.

Later on, we watched documentaries filmed in India and the USA, which brought us closer to the extreme, almost inhumane treatment of people and human trafficking, as well as abuse and cyberbullying.

The first documentary, “Born Into Brothels” is a documentary about kids born to sex workers in Kolkata, India, living in a red-light district. It shows their tough lives and how a photographer, Zana Briski, teaches them to use cameras, giving them a way to express themselves. Through photography, the kids share their hopes for a better life. After watching the video, we discussed and highlighted the power of education and creativity, which can bring change and offers hope for a brighter future. It also emphasized the importance of human rights, showing that every child deserves the chance to grow and succeed.

The second documentary was intended to warn us about the possible misuse of our photos or videos that we share on social networks and that human rights are not taken for granted. It was a three-part documentary called “The most hated person on the internet”. It was a documentary about Hunter Moore, the founder of a social network who shared naked photos of people without their consent. The documentary shows the dangers of cyberbullying and loss of privacy, and emphasizes the importance of protecting human rights online. The story shows the power of individuals in the fight against hatred and reminds us how important it is to protect everyone’s dignity on the Internet.

The training course also included an international night, where we presented delicacies from our cuisine, culture, music and dance in national teams. Since the training course took place in Slovakia, we also enjoyed homemade Bryndza dumplings.

One of the highlight activities was group work focused on making a video with a human rights theme. Our group was inspired by the story of two people of the same gender who vainly sought the right to marry together, but were rejected by all institutions.

During the course, we also visited a community center “Baterkáreň” in Trnava, which also supports human rights.

On the last evening, we revealed our secret friends of the entire training course, and for the last time we sang and danced at a karaoke night. We would like to thank the organizers and all facilitators for a perfect event where we strengthened our knowledge of human rights.
