Project report:

At the beginning of April 2019 eleven youth workers from 5 European countries (Greece, Spain, Czech Republic, Poland, Croatia) met in Tenerife, Canary Islands to speak and learn about Solidarity and Participation of Youth in Small Communities.

For the period of one week we went thoroughly through various methods focusing on human rights and touching the topic of Solidarity with our two Romanian trainers in a beautiful city of Puerto de la Cruz. We spoke about the art of use of powerful questions and storytelling; we were explained human library method; photovoice and last but not least forum and image theatre method. All of the methods we had practised ourselves, in order to understand them even better.

We also had time to speak about the problems of local youth living in Tenerife such as high rate of unemployment (20-30%), unwillingness of youth to travel, impossibility of young people to live on their own and not stay living with their parents till the ear of 40 and other issues the local youth is facing in their everyday lives, which started a very fruitful and realistic discussions. Comparing to Spanish seniors that were all around us enjoying their holiday time and living life to the fullest (dancing, drinking, laughing) it was a very strange paradox.

Even though we were a small group, we shared and learned a lot from each other’s practices and inspired each other as well during the program, but also in the free moments we had. Together with the marvellous and very special environment, nature and great Spanish culture we had beautiful experience to learn a lot of new things, to give and to get back.

I would like to thank to EYCB team for giving us this unique opportunity to learn, grow and experience the project to the fullest!
