Project report:
For my very first Erasmus+ project I went to Sfântu Gheorghe, Romania. This training course called “Unity against hate” focused on hate speech and discrimination, in general as well as in particular countries or regions. 3 other members of the Czech team went with me on the course. We also met participants from Greece, Poland, Italy, Turkey, the Netherlands and Portugal.
The course took place in a small village near Sfantu Gheorghe. The organizers provided us with accommodation in a beautiful hotel, where we also worked and learned most of the time. Our meals were arranged at a restaurant just 70 meters from the hotel and the food was very good.
During the programme we learned about discrimination, hate speech and bullying based on race, gender, sex and sexuality. Through workshops and various creative tasks such as making videos or creating our own anti-hate speech campaigns, we learned about the situation of discrimination in each participating state. We also learned more about the difficult situation between Romanians and Hungarians in Transylvania, where the town of Sfantu Gheorghe was located and therefore where the whole course took place. We also learned more about the situation of the Roma minority in the area.
As part of the course, we visited and explored the nearby town of Sfantu Gheorghe, where we visited, among other things, the office of the organizing organization. On the last day we also visited Bran Castle and the town of Brasov, both of which are important Romanian cultural sites. The organizers had everything perfectly arranged for the trips. We didn’t have to pay for entrances or lunches.
I met a huge number of amazing people on the course, thanks to whom I learned more about the cultural and social aspects of their country. It’s amazing to see how people who grew up in a completely different place and society have such similar principles to mine. I’ve made a lot of friends in different places around Europe and I can’t wait to visit them.
I was a bit nervous before my first Erasmus+ project, but I’m incredibly glad I went and would highly recommend this opportunity to others! Of course, this experience has inspired me to go on as many other courses and youth exchanges as possible.
