Project report:

On June 9, we set off for the training course ARTivism in Action: Creativity for Change in Hrnčiarovce nad Parnou, near Trnava in Slovakia. From the very first moments, it was clear that the participants were a very diverse group of people from different corners of the artistic world, which made the experience all the more interesting. We found ourselves in a very open and inspiring environment. Alongside the Czech team, there were also teams from Italy, North Macedonia, Slovakia, Poland, Bulgaria, and Armenia.

During the program, we explored the different forms artivism can take, learned about examples of artivism from both the past and present, and got to know some key figures in artivism and activism. One whole day was dedicated to theatre, specifically the Theatre of the Oppressed. Despite initial nervousness and shyness, we ended up rating this activity as one of the most impactful. We also had the opportunity to learn presentation tips and tricks from a professional presenter, and the volunteers even tried their hand at improvisation. One evening was devoted to a cultural night where we tasted traditional foods from each country and presented our own cultures.

As part of a study visit, we went to Trnava, where we visited the Ján Palárik Theatre and the cultural center Malý Berlín. There, we learned how the city of Trnava supports young artists, artivism, and the local community.

The highlight of the project was presenting the artivist projects we had been working on in groups over several days. Participants prepared musical performances, artistic paintings, and videos. We addressed topics such as global warming and mental health. I am sure all of us reflected on how we can bring artivism or activism into our own lives and carry out our own projects of this kind.

This course was truly inspiring—full of creativity and learning. I am very grateful for the opportunity to participate, and I highly recommend this unique experience to anyone considering joining an Erasmus+ project!
