Project report:
From February 20th to March 1st a unique Erasmus+ youth exchange project, EMBRACE, took place in the picturesque town of Sivrihisar, Türkiye. The project brought together young participants from the five countries, focusing on themes of inclusion, racism, the refugee crisis, and discrimination. However, as a youth exchange, the primary goal was fostering connections and social bonds among participants, creating a vibrant atmosphere of collaboration and cultural exchange.
The location itself played a significant role in our experience. Sivrihisar, a small yet charming town, lies near a rugged mountain range known for its cinematic appeal. Exploring the town and its surroundings allowed us to experience Turkish hospitality firsthand while immersing ourselves in a new cultural environment.
This project was especially memorable for all of us, as it was our first time visiting Türkiye. Staying at a student dormitory allowed us to engage not only with fellow project participants but also with local university students, who warmly welcomed us and shared their experiences, making our stay even more enriching.
Throughout the project, we participated in various activities and workshops that subtly yet effectively highlighted the pressing social issues of inclusion and discrimination. These interactive sessions encouraged us to reflect on our perspectives, challenge stereotypes, and understand different cultural backgrounds. One of the most engaging aspects of the project was the opportunity for each national team to organize their own workshop. Every country brought its unique approach, using creative methods to involve participants in discussions and activities related to inclusion and discrimination. As part of the program, we also had the opportunity to chat about the project topic with locals.
One of the highlights of the project was our visit to Eskişehir, a city with a rich in history and tradition. We explored its historic district, visited local mosques, and tasted traditional Turkish cuisine, further deepening our cultural understanding. A slow walk through local park provided a relaxing moment to a busy day.
The EMBRACE project was truly a memorable experience. It was not just about addressing social issues but about bringing people together and learning from one another. The bonds we built and the experiences we shared will hopefully stay with us long after the project’s end. Special thanks to Erasmus+, organizers of the project and EYCB for making this incredible journey possible.
