Project report:

From 24 to 31 August I participated in the training course Gamification for Environmental Sustainability in Vienna. Participants came from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Austria, Latvia, Greece, Slovenia, Hungary, Poland and Romania. At the same time, a project for participants from North Africa, with whom we had some programmes in common, was taking place at the same location. So on this project I had the chance to experience so many cultures in one week like never before.

The main task we had on the project was to create our own board games in groups to introduce the players the topic of sustainability. We first started by playing normal board games and exploring their mechanisms, then learning the theory behind the games and playing existing educational games. Then, in groups, we studied one topic related to sustainability (e.g. Corporate Social Responsibility, greenwashing, circular economy, biodiversity, etc.). Once we had expert knowledge on this topic, we set the target group, the objectives and started to think of the game mechanism, rules and game design. In the end, six educational games were created, which we tested with each other, gave feedback and adapted the games accordingly. We then played the games we created with the young people we work with in our countries. The games will be used in other projects and will provide sustainability awareness. I think we have done a good work on the project, which will serve further.
