Summary: Project “Our traditions under the twelve stars.cz” was composed as Action 1.1. Youth Exchange within Youth in Action program that brought together young people from 6 countries to learn about their folklore and traditions.
Target group: The beneficiaries were 32 young people from the Czech Republic, Turkey, Portugal, Romania, Poland and Spain in the age between 18-30 years.
Date and venue: The project took place between 12 and 19 September 2009 in Lednice in the Czech Republic.
The topic and aims: The main topics of the project were the traditions and folklore of European countries and also the question – “Are there such things as common European culture, folklore or traditions”? Therefore, the main aim was to share each other’s traditions and folklore, find its common roots, show what makes our particular traditions and folklore different from the others, discover how important they are for people’s everyday life and open our minds for the important question of one common culture, folklore and traditions shared by all Europeans.
Activities and methods: The project included 7 full days of activities such as a visit of a folk festival in Velké Bílovice, presentations of national food, drinks, dances and folklore costumes, inventing common European dance, folklore costume and festival or trips to Brno and Lednice-Valtice area. The methods were based on informal learning like group work, interactive presentations, workshops and public inquiries.
Grant: The project was supported by 13 795 Euro from the funds of Youth in Action program.
