Project report:
Lemme tell you about the ten days me and the Czech team spent in the Netherlands, learning how to navigate telling our story. This youth exchange took place from October 29th to November 7th in a small Dutch town called Ommen. Around 40 people from 8 different countries spent 10 days together, getting to know each other and improving their storytelling skills. All these people were very inspiring, having various backgrounds and stories. WE created a harmonized group, where we all accepted and supported each other.
The topic of this project was storytelling and the schedule was framed by some of the Jungian archetypes, each one of them being a topic of one day. The facilitators Alexandra, Toni, Vera and Rox did an amazing job at guiding us all through our journey of telling stories.
Every morning we started with a movement session to warm up for the following workshops. We explored ourselves to find the story within us that we want to tell through writing, sharing and also creating. Then we used these skills to organize an event for the locals, a Human Library, where each person shared their story in front of an audience, on the second to last day.
Some workshops were a bit intense, however, throughout the journey we had a buddy – a randomly assigned person who we could share our thoughts and feelings with, as well as a support group – a group of 4-5 participants from different countries always meeting and sharing by the end of the day.
We organized two cultural nights, a balkan(ish) night and “the rest”, where we got to learn a lot about each other’s cultures. Additionally, each national group has prepared and facilitated their own workshop for the others. This experience particularly was magical for me, as I got to try leading a workshop and guiding a meditation.
This project was rather intense, mentally and time-wise, however, I believe we all learned a lot about ourselves and others and most importantly, we had our story be heard and appreciated. I feel really grateful to everyone who made it happen and to everyone taking part in it. ‘Till next time!
