Project report:

With autumn just around the corner, we had the chance to take part in the training course Homo Digitalis: I am online, therefore I am, held in Trnava, Slovakia. Our Czech team of two people arrived on the 8th September to the guesthouse, where we also joined participants from several other European countries like Poland, Hungary, Montenegro, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania and of course hosting country Slovakia. Together we spent five days full of learning, discussions, and new experiences, which we are going to talk about in this article.

The sessions we were attending the whole week covered a wide spectrum of topics such as: online privacy, creative usage of digital tools or also fake news. One activity a lot of us found especially engaging was a lecture about toxic masculinity in a modern world. This lecture was led by one of the organizators, Ali. I personally liked this session the most, because it was an active discussion and there has been a lot of examples from real life, that probably all of us could imagine very easily. Many of us also became aware of the influence of toxic masculinity through this, and we are definitely more mindful of it now.

Besides that, we played several Erasmus+ games and took part in many group activities, which allowed us to cooperate with other participants, get to know each other better, and improve our teamwork skills. For example, we created presentations about famous experiments, made a video about a specific topic from the project. For me the most interesting group work was creating a presentation about our home country for the intercultural night. This was a special evening when everyone presented their own country and brought their typical food and drinks for others to try.

Thursday, 11th September was a bit different from the other days because we had a study visit to the IPčko organization in Trnava. They told us about their mission in Slovakia and presented some interesting topics and facts related to the digital world, depression, and mindfulness. The highlight of the visit was their small hedgehog, Samko, whom we got to pet. For the rest of the day, we didn’t have any sessions, which gave us plenty of free time to explore Trnava or visit some other interesting locations around.

All in all, Homo Digitalis was an amazing experience! We learned so much about digital tools, mindfulness, and online safety, and we met incredible people from all over Europe. Between workshops, group projects, and exploring Trnava, the week was both fun and inspiring. I’m leaving with new skills, great memories, and friendships that will last far beyond this project!

A big thanks goes to EYCB, organizators of this project and of course all the partcipants! I hope to see you all in the future!
