Project report:

From 20 to 28 June 2026, the Czech team took part in the international training course Sports for Active Minds, Healthy Lives in Leipzig, Germany. The project brought together participants from several European countries and focused on the connection between sport, mental health, healthy lifestyles, inclusion and youth work.

The main aim of the project was to show how sport and physical activity can be used as tools for personal development, emotional well-being, teamwork and active participation among young people. During the training course, we explored these topics through non-formal education methods, interactive workshops, outdoor activities, reflection sessions and group work.

The programme included getting-to-know-each-other and team-building activities, sessions about sport for development, mental health and sport, embodiment through combat sports, and workshops focused on creating new sport-based activities. We also shared good practices from our countries and discussed how sport can support inclusion and cooperation in different local communities.

One of the strongest experiences for us was the Adventure Park day, where we took part in rafting and a climbing session. These activities were not only fun, but also showed very clearly how important trust, communication and support are in a team. Some moments were challenging, but that made the experience even more valuable, because we had to encourage each other and step out of our comfort zones.

Later in the programme, we worked in international teams to design, test and improve our own sport-based activities. This helped us better understand how to prepare activities for young people so that they are active, inclusive and meaningful at the same time. The goals of the project were achieved mainly through learning by doing, by trying the methods ourselves, reflecting on them and discussing how they could be used in youth work.

During the project, we learned that sport can be much more than physical exercise. It can help people feel more confident, connect with others, deal with stress and become part of a group. We also improved our teamwork, communication in English and intercultural understanding. The training course gave us new ideas, practical methods and motivation that we can use in future youth projects and local activities.
