Project report:
Traveling to the heart of the South Caucasus for an international youth project was an incredible opportunity, and our entire Czech team agrees that this week highlighted the immense power of dialogue and non-formal education in today’s world. Hosted by the Armenian Progressive Youth (APY) NGO in the quiet village of Alapars, this intensive 7-day training course brought together 35 young leaders and youth workers from nine nations, including Germany, Romania, Turkey, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, and the Czech Republic.
Instead of rigid academic lectures, the program relied entirely on experiential learning methodologies. Through interactive simulations and group activities, we deeply practiced core peacebuilding skills such as active listening, structured discussion or debate.
One of the most profound aspects of the project was the opportunity to look far beyond the pages of standard textbooks. During workshops and informal evenings, we gained invaluable insights into the rich cultures of the other participating countries. More importantly, our peers openly shared their personal experiences regarding the ongoing conflicts and historical struggles that directly affect their home regions. Hearing these realities firsthand provided our team with a completely new dimension of empathy and global understanding.
The hosting standards provided by APY in Alapars were absolutely stellar. The modern facilities offered an excellent environment for our workshops, the accommodation was highly comfortable, and we were treated to outstanding traditional Armenian cuisine every single day. Highlight for our entire delegation was the cultural excursion day to Yerevan, where we immersed ourselves in the local folklore, historic pink-tuff architecture, and legendary hospitality.
We are returning home fully energized, equipped with a practical toolkit for non-violent communication.
