Project report:

After a long-lasting quarantine many of us have forgotten what it is like going outside with a group of friends to play some sports. That is exactly why the organisation RASIO decided to create project named “The Joy of Movement Unites” held from 11.—20. September 2021 in one of Latvia´s biggest cities – Liepaja, focusing on sports and healthy active lifestyle. Joined by participants from Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Greece me and 4 more Czechs packed our warmest jackets and were on our way to discover the beauties of the Baltic countries.

Upon arrival we were all pleasantly surprised by warm and sunny weather ideal for spending the whole day outside. From the beginning we instantly matched with other participants thanks to many group activities such city scavenger hunt, speed dating and many others. The organizers gave a lot of free time, and it was nice to see that everyone was eager to get the most out of plenty sports facilities in the city. Not only did we play a lot of sports, but we also did two hiking trips to a nearby towns with a local guide tour who provided us with some very interesting commentary. This all combined was a great way to learn a bit more about Latvian history and culture.

But this was not the only cultural learning we had as each country had it´s own cultural evening where they had a chance to teach us about their culture, history, lifestyle and food. Seeing all the similarities really brought us all closer together. Even though I came there to be more active I got something way more valuable – amazing friends from all around the world.

Overall, we had a great time in Latvia, and I hope that in the future I will have more opportunities such as this one to have new unforgettable adventures. Big thanks to both EYCB and RASIO for making this project happen!
