Project report:
From June 9th to 18th, 2025, our Czech team attended a youth exchange by the name of Roots & Vibes in the Wielkopolska region of Poland, together with seven other national groups.
Though it might not be exactly clear from the name of this project, the main topic of this youth exchange was the promotion of mental wellbeing by methods such as digital detox, outdoor activities, as well as some mindfulness exercises. The fact that the venue of this project was located near a village pretty much in the middle of nowhere really complemented this goal, as we were naturally encouraged to find ways to restore our dopamine other than just mindless doomscrolling, which obviously wasn’t a hard job, considering we were surrounded by a community of amazing young people and had the equipment for all sorts of free time activities, such as volleyball, badminton, or even kayaking.
What I personally found very original about this youth exchange is the way it grasped informal education. Most of the time on projects like these, there is either an external party or a member of the hosting organization itself taking care of crucial activities like food preparation, taking photos, etc. Here, that was not the case, everything was in the hands of the participants themselves. We had to assume leadership, learn to cooperate, find compromises, and, most importantly, improvise.
Aside from the regular activities, we had the chance to visit either Poznan or Gniezno for a day, we went on a hike, and also went kayaking.
I believe I speak on behalf of the whole Czech team when I say that this project was one of the best experiences of our lives, which, even though it was tough at times, we would all gladly go through one more time.
