Popis projektu:
Why this project:
We began the year with stark and overwhelming news: The planet has warmed beyond expectations in 2024, with the average temperature exceeding not just +1.5°C but +1.6°C above pre-industrial levels. Data from the EU’s Copernicus service confirms this is the second consecutive year breaching this critical threshold. Alarmingly, this milestone was anticipated to be crossed permanently only in three years.
For us, as youth workers, this news is more than a headline—it represents the growing weight of a challenge we grapple with daily. Despite our continuous efforts to educate and inspire action, the enthusiasm of young people is going down. They are aware of the problem but feel overwhelmed, powerless, and unsure about what meaningful actions they can take.
What we’ve noticed and felt through our work:
1. The climate crisis gets more and more critical. This understanding, combined with the constant flood of alarming news, has left many young people feeling overwhelmed. They know the urgency of the issue but struggle to see their role in addressing it.
2. Many eco-projects have become repetitive, focusing on the same activities — clean-ups, tree planting, and workshops — that no longer spark curiosity or engagement.
3. Young people often feel that their individual actions are too small to make a difference, leading to apathy and disengagement.
4. Some solutions, like extreme social movements or big lifestyle changes, divide communities and make young people feel unheard or excluded if they can’t follow them. For example, protests that involve damaging art to raise awareness often cause conflict instead of bringing people together, yet for many young people, they feel like the only solution.
Project objectives:
This project seeks to empower youth workers to better engage young people in environmental action by addressing the causes of disengagement, sharing innovative and effective methods, and equipping youth workers with more practical tools to create impactful, inclusive, and inspiring eco-activities.
Specific objectives:
1. Understand the reasons behind youth disengagement in eco-activities by facilitating discussions to identify key challenges, such as activity fatigue, climate anxiety, and feelings of powerlessness, while exploring how these issues differ across countries and communities.
2. Share and analyze effective methods for eco-activities, by providing a platform for youth workers to exchange innovative practices and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses, focusing on methods that are adaptable, impactful, and resonate with young people.
3. Create a practical toolkit for youth workers that consolidates the identified challenges, shared solutions, and innovative practices into actionable resources, specifically designed to empower youth workers to re-energize eco-activities.
Participants‘ profile:
- Be proficient in English to ensure effective communication and collaboration throughout the project.
- Be at least 18 years old, with no upper age limit.
- Be a resident in the country of the partner sending organization.
- Represent an organization that implements environmental or sustainability focused activities.
- Be in a position to make decisions or influence strategies within their organization related to youth and ecological projects.
- Be committed to integrating new approaches to ecology into their work with young people and addressing challenges in youth engagement in eco-activities.
- Have a strong interest in collaborative learning and a willingness to apply the project’s shared methods and solutions in future initiatives.
- Be able and committed to acting as multipliers by sharing and disseminating the project results within their organization and community.
- Be available for the full duration of the project, including preparation and follow-up phases, to ensure consistency and effective participation.
