Popis projektu:

In an era where online narratives often distort the view of reality, this training for youth workers and young leaders offers a refreshing and much-needed perspective. Inspired by Humankind by Rutger Bregman and Factfulness by the Roslings, this 7-day non-formal training course empowers youth workers and young leaders to challenge digital pessimism, decode online content, and guide youth toward a more hopeful, data-driven view of the world.

While the internet and social media provide access to information and opportunities for connection, they also amplify outrage, misinformation, and a distorted sense of reality. Negative news, polarising influencers, and algorithm-driven content often leave youth – and those working with them – feeling anxious, divided, and disillusioned. This training course invites participants to question that narrative.

We will explore how the world is, in fact, better than we think: global poverty, general literacy, health, and peace have all improved dramatically – yet we rarely see that reflected online. Youth workers will develop skills on using the tools to discern truth from noise, navigate digital spaces mindfully, and promote balanced, constructive dialogue with young people. The training course focuses not just on prevention and protection, but on empowerment: digital immunity , critical thinking, and positive communication.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for 3 motivated youth workers, trainers, facilitators, mentors, or NGO staff members aged 18 or older who are fluent in English. If you are eager to gain new competencies in digital literacy, online communication, and topics related to them, this training is for you!

Training objectives:

  • Build critical media and digital literacy skills grounded in psychological insight and data awareness.
  • Explore the contrast between real-world progress and online pessimism.
  • Provide youth workers and young leaders with tools to challenge toxic narratives and support youth resilience.
  • Foster practical knowledge in digital safety and security, work-life balance, and communication dynamics.
  • Encourage participants to become amplifiers of hope, facts, and nuance in their daily work with youth.

Learning outcomes:

Participants will acquire a variety of competencies to address contemporary challenges related to digital literacy. During the program, they will:

  • Identify and address online with a great offline impact disinformation and harmful digital influencers.
  • Explain the psychological effects of negative digital consumption (e.g. nocebo effect).
  • Communicate positive global trends and inspire civic engagement based on facts.
  • Model and teach balanced digital habits and emotional literacy in online environments.
  • Create youth-led activities or campaigns that support responsible digital citizenship and activism in community.

When and where?

The 7-day training will take place from September 8th to September 14th, 2025 (including travel days), in Trnava (Hrnčiarovce), Slovakia, in very nice guest house called Na Mlyne (http://www.namlyne.sk/-o-nas)- The venue is located in one of the district of the city of Trnava, which is a regional centre and historical city located just 50 km from the capital and having a very nice and cosy atmosphere. Accommodation and food will be provided by organisers and travel costs will be reimbursed to participants right after the training upon submission of required documents.
