Popis projektu:

Context and objectives:

Youth participation in democratic life is a pillar of sustainable development of European Union and may take different forms:

  • Participation of young people in representative democracy – standing for or voting in elections or membership of political parties,
  • Participation of young people in participatory structures: promoting the involvement of more young people in structures, such as youth organisations or issue-based NGOs (non-profit non-governmental organisations) or volunteering,
  • Participation in debate: on youth or community issues,
  • Developing democratic competences and knowledge.

According to Post-election survey 2014 European Elections 2014 Socio-Demographic Annex, done by DG for Communication – Public Opinion Monitoring Unit of the European Union, the EU is facing a decline in citizens’ confidence in European institutions and even if the young people are generally more positive about the EU, their age group is the one with the highest absenteeism in the 2014 EP (European Parliament) elections.

In this way, through this project, we aim:

  • To stimulate the active participation of 40 people from 7 countries in the context of the 2019 EP elections.
  • To develop democratic competences, the European consciousness and knowledge about the EU among the young participants.
  • To develop participants’ specific skills for developing online campaigns to promote active participation of young people in local communities.
  • To develop and implement 7 online campaigns aiming to promote active participation of young people in the context of 2019 EP elections.

    Methodology and main topics

The youth exchange represents the central activity of the entire project, being the most important part of the intervention plan. Through different participatory, creative and reflexive methods that will be used during the youth exchange, the young participants will develop their initiative, social and civic competences, their democratic competences and knowledge about the EU.

The working sessions are based mostly on non-formal education methods: team building games, get to know each other games, ice breaking games, energizers, treasure hunt, educational debate, training sessions, Open Space Technology, and European Union Parliament Simulation and other active and creative learning methods, various games and creative exercises especially chosen to facilitate the transfer of information and the exchange between all participants. There will be also used different classic methods, such as group working, inter-cultural learning, learning by doing, etc. but also reflexive and evaluation methods.

Participants' profile:

Every each partner will be represented during the youth exchange by 7 PARTICIPANTS: 6 young people  with the age between 16 and 25 years old and a group leader. Please take into consideration the fact that through this project we aim a specific target group: Out of the 6 participants, we are looking for:
  • 2 young people that had the legal age to vote in 2014, but haven’t voted for the 2014’s EU Parliament elections
  • 2 young people that had the legal age to vote in 2014 and they voted at the 2014’s EU Parliament elections
  • 2 other young people who haven’t had the legal age to vote in 2014, but they will have the right to vote at the 2019’s EU Parliament elections
More information about the selection criteria you may find in the infopack on p. 15.

Group leader's profile:
The group leaders must be youth workers (volunteers’ coordinators, facilitators, trainers, etc.). They have to be older than 18 years old, with experience in youth working and as a group leader. It is mandatory that the group leader participating in the APV to join the young participants during the Youth Exchange too.
More information about the group leader's selection criteria you may find in the infopack (p. 14).
