Popis projektu:

“The Rule of Artichoke“ is an immersive training course focused on community organizing and building grassroots support. Get ready to roll up your sleeves—this training is intensive, but in the best way possible. It’s designed to challenge you, inspire you, and ultimately empower you. It’s about finding like-minded individuals around you to form a passionate, common cause, and learning to set aside traditional company politics to play by a new set of rules.

Remember, „When democracy no longer feels the need to defend itself, that will be the day democracy ends.“ Furthermore, this project aims to foster community organising competences for youth workers across Europe, by promoting community development and building on community leadership. Reflecting the E+ priorities: „more cohesive and inclusive societies which allow citizens to play an active role in democratic life“ and „development of social capital among young people, the empowerment of young people and their ability to participate actively in society“, and the purpose of the mobility of youth workers Key Action 1, is precisely that of empowering youth workers active both locally and at European level to become community organisers skilled at community development and building power.

Objectives:

  • To create community organising competences among European youth workers , and enable them to become community organisers within their local realities, in order to part-take in identifying local challenges, share stories and foster action; thus promoting power acquisition
    within the community and autonomy.
  • To provide tools for needs assessment and anthropological observation in identifying local challenges and issues that can be solved through community organising.
  • To foster storytelling competences in youth workers alongside with public speaking and communication ones in order to enhance the “Sharing Stories” aspect of Community Organising.
  • To gain non-violent action tools to foster organisation, communication and community mobilisation.

Location: Castelletto di Cuggiono

Evocative hamlet on the Naviglio Grande banks, it is rich of awe-inspiring villas and historical buildings (it has been also location of some films over the years). The hamlet is situated in the territory of Parco del Ticino, which is an area particularly lush and verdant with sumptuous oaks and many water meadows. Through woods and vast different cultivation fields the quiet secondary branches of the river Ticino twist and turn.

The Ticino Valley Natural Park, Europe’s first river park, covers an area of about 91,800 hectares, of which about 20,500 are protected as part of a nature park. It comprises 47 municipalities between Lake Maggiore and the Po River in the provinces of Varese, Milan and Pavia. Thanks to its wealth of ecosystems, it boasts a heritage of biodiversity with no equal in the Po Valley: between animals, plants and fungi, there are over 6,235 recorded  species.

The Park territory is criss-crossed by over 750 kilometres of cycle and pedestrian paths, including over 100 kilometres along the canal banks, which allow visitors to explore long-distance itineraries of natural, religious and cultural interest.
