Popis ESC příležitosti:
Who are we?
Lojtra („Loi-trah“) is a young NGO based in Litija, Slovenia. Since 2014, we have been working to bring opportunities to local youth for personal and professional growth. We feel strongly about the power of experience and want to empower young people to live their best lives and to positively develop their local relationships and spaces through experiential activities. Our main topics of interest are sustainability, music, intercultural connection and active citizenship. By making activities in these areas, we want to increase the possibilities available to rural youth.
Where are we?
Litija („Lih-tee-ya“) is a small town right in the middle of Slovenia, which is why it’s known as ‚the heart of Slovenia‘. Around 6,700 people live in the town itself, and 8,000 more live in the surrounding borough. The area is very rural, with only a few small factories and a mine which closed in 1965. As a result, the local environment is beautiful, with a lot of unspoiled woodland and the glittering river Sava running right through the middle of the town. The railway keeps Litija well connected with the rest of Slovenia, including with the capital city, Ljubljana, which is only half an hour away.
Despite their small town surroundings, the inhabitants of Litija are very open to international experiences – the youth center and student club also regularly coordinate international projects. International influence is a welcome injection of energy in this sleepy Slovenian town.
What is the project?
We’re looking for someone to join us in Litija from November 10th 2025 to March 24th 2026. You will be joining our other three international volunteers we are hosting this year, and your main area of focus will be improving the visibility of and access to sustainability projects and international opportunities for youth from rural areas. You will do this by producing informative and attractive online content for the channels of our NGO and other local initiatives.
At Lojtra we have always put sustainability as a priority value of our projects. For us it means building strong bonds with the local community, exploring our own living habits – how they sustain the health of our body, mind and spirit, and interacting with nature in a symbiotic way through practices like permaculture and natural building.
By upgrading our website and creating content for our social media, you will make sure sustainability projects become more visible and accessible. In the process of doing so, you will get to explore, interview and film different initiatives, farmers and institutions in Litija region, that are important carriers of traditional or alternative wisdom regarding sustainability practices.
Your tasks:
Before you come to Litija, we will make a formal agreement together about what you will do during your volunteering period. This is so that we know what we can expect from you and you know what you can expect from us. Of course it will also include your suggestions and wishes about the activities. Your project will start with the goal to upgrade Lojtra’s website (aproximately 2 months) and will continue with documenting the life of international volunteers and local sustainability initiatives through creating social media content (for the rest of the project). Your experience will include:
-
upgrading Lotra’s website – in doing so you will:
-
- ⟶ plan the design and the content for the website together with Lotra’s team
- ⟶ meet with your mentor approximately two times per month to discuss technical matters
- ⟶ work on the website individually, on your own, being proactive in finding the solutions to issues and challenges that come along
-
creating social media content about ESC volunteering experience and sustainability initiatives in Litija – in doing so you will
-
- ⟶ explore the lifestyle and the pracitces of local sustainability initiatives and other ESC volunteers
- ⟶ plan, film, edit and post instagram reels about what you have explored

About you:
There are certain qualities that we are looking for in a volunteer – qualities that we think would make the volunteer a good fit for the project, for our organization and the local environment. These qualities include…
- a good grasp of English. You don’t need to understand everything and speak perfectly, but in order to work with other volunteers and our international partners, you should be able to hold a conversation in English.
- some experience in web design would make things much easier for you as you will have to work on it individually a lot, but a strong motivation to learn and develop your skills might also be enough. It depends on you, how confident you feel to take on this challenge with the skills you have.
- enthusiasm for the project. We want a volunteer who really wants to carry out the project and to be here with us. Trying yourself out in new situations isn’t always easy (we know from our own experiences!), but enthusiasm can go a long way to helping you through the tougher moments.
- independence and interests of your own. To make the most of any experience, it’s a good idea to know what you want to take from it. If you don’t know concretely yet, having a feeling for your own identity and a desire to do for yourself is a great start.
