Popis projektu:

What is the main goal of the project?

Europe faces important challenges today. Socio-economic problems, violent extremism and a lack of trust in democratic processes are amongst the biggest threats to Europe’s shared principles of peace, justice, democracy, respect for human rights, freedom, equality, tolerance and non-discrimination. In this context, education and training have an important role in cultivating mutual respect and fundamental values as well as in fostering inclusion and equality. Citizenship education, in particular, is becoming a key topic in many education systems. It aims to support young people in becoming active, informed and responsible citizens who are willing and able to take responsibility for themselves and for their communities and to contribute to the policy-making process.

As young people in Europe join a non-governmental organization or form an informal group, they become ambassadors of the European idea. The problem however is that, with their current capacity, not all young people can unleash their potential well enough to influence the decision-making process even on a local level. They might be interested in politics and have a strong feeling of European citizenship, however, they need to support these statements with a solid background of theoretical and practical civic education and a greater knowledge of the European integration process.

The main goals of this project are to develop new methods, tools and approaches in civic education and fostering European citizenship among young people in Europe, who show interest in current social and political issues, want to be actively engaged and make decisive and independent choices.

The specific objectives are creating innovative open source digital tools and inclusive methods for civic education; fostering exchange of good practices in youth work and non-formal education; building capacities of youth organizations to tackle current and future education and training needs, caused by the Coronavirus epidemic and more recently – the war in Ukraine; support and improve skills of youth workers by giving them practical skills in civic education through non-formal activities; fostering European citizenship and broadening and developing social and intercultural competences and critical thinking of young people; enhancing partnerships and developing new initiatives for civic education across Europe; raising awareness among young people, especially in rural areas, on activities provided by the EU for them.

The Project is hosted by: “Europe in your hand”, Bulgaria
