Popis projektu:

The target group of this project will be formed of peer trainers as well trainers and youth workers who want to explore further and acquire more skills in organising activities on the topic of gender equality through peer education.

The common factor of the participants will be their personal and professional need and honest willingness to deal conceretely with the topic and take effective social action after the training. For that purpose, the selection procedure will be carried out through accurate application questionnaire, checking the candidates‘ motivations and, above all, their potential for organising actions and local innitiatives/projects tackling the different topics in their local environments.

Every year we organise a Thematic Awareness Training and train-the-trainer activities (to develop facilitation skills in youth leaders). We aim for participants to use the skills they have acquired locally, in the communities where they usually work, and to report on their achievements and the challenges they have encountered.

Participants‘ profile:  trainers, facilitators, mentors, educators, and volunteers actively involved in youth work.

The Peers for Equality Training Programme is a initiative developed through an unprecedented collaboration between the EPTO (European Peer Training Organisation) and Y-Peer networks. Designed to foster gender equality and combat discrimination, this programme has been tested in over 50 communities across Europe and Central Asia, positively impacting more than 1000 young beneficiaries. Through its implementation, the programme has proven highly effective in:

  • Developing critical thinking about traditions and stereotypes that contradict human rights, with a focus on cultural contexts in Europe and Central Asia.
  • Empowering participants to challenge societal pressures that perpetuate discrimination.
  • Raising awareness of the negative implications of gender-based violence and broader forms of gender discrimination.
  • Encouraging tolerance and openness to diversity, fostering a more inclusive mindset among young people.

The training programme is built upon internationally recognized pedagogical frameworks, ensuring its quality, effectiveness, and credibility. Some of the key methodologies and tools used include:

1. The ‘Peer Training Programme’ of the Anti-Defamation League’s A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute.
2. Y-Peer’s methodologies for peer education, specializing in youth-led learning.
3. The Belieforama™ programme by CEJI – A Jewish Contribution to an Inclusive Europe, an award-winning initiative focused on religious diversity and anti-discrimination.
4. The ‘Learning for Well-Being’ framework of the Learning for Well-Being Foundation, which promotes holistic personal development.

By combining peer training, experiential learning, and diversity education, the programme creates an engaging and interactive space where participants develop self-awareness, effective communication, leadership, facilitation, and project management skills.

The Peers for Equality programme was developed following a rigorous framework, guaranteeing its place as a high-quality and impactful peer education tool within the EPTO (European Peer Training Organisation) network.

By equipping young people with critical thinking skills, awareness of discrimination, and the ability to challenge societal norms, this programme plays a vital role in shaping a more equal and inclusive future.

The programme Peers for Equality, was developed by Ofensiva Tinerilor and partners under the guidance of the European Peer Training Organisation, in which we also a member.
